Police patrol the waves at Curl Curl Beach

Four police officers patrolled the waves at Curl Curl Beach late last year at the C.U.B.A. (Curl Curl Boardriders Assoc.) Celebrity Surf Challenge in the name of charity.

The event raised both funds and awareness for local children’s charity, Stewart House. Teams of celebrities and local surfers will compete in a tag team format designed to celebrate the sport of surfing and the spirit of giving.

The police officers were:
Detective Senior Constable Matt Zimmer (State Crime Command)
Senior Constable Simon Hodgson (Forensic Imaging)
Senior Constable Andrew Parker (Sydney Water Police)
Senior Constable Nick Brusic (Wollongong Transits)

The teams involved in the event were: NSW Police, NSW Fire Brigades, Fitness First, Kip McGrath Learning Institute, Toshiba, Manly Sea Eagles, Lachy Daddo, BCP Marketing, Sawyer Brothers Builders, Destiny Wireless.

Over $6,500 of cash and prizes were donated to Stewart House, which was an increase from the previous year. Unfortunately on the day of the event the surf was small leading to the event continuing as a malibu-style competition. This enabled the police team to meet the local kids and really get involved in a great community event.

The event organisers and the PSA wish to thank NSW Police Council of Sport Inc for supporting the club and the charity event.

The Police Surfing Association also had 10 club members participate in the Australia Day Surf across the Harbour. Money raised also went to various charities. For more information on this annual event head to www.australiaday.com.au  or www.sportingspectrum.com.au

We are currently in preparation for the Australian Police Indonesian Surf Challenge to be held in South Sumatra on 3 May 2006.
