NSW POLICE RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CARNIVAL 2007

The Cronulla Sharks Police Rugby League Football team make it three premierships in a row after successfully defending the titles they won in 2005 and 2006 by defeating the West Sydney Redbacks 28 to 6.

Interestingly the competition which began in 1970 was won by Sutherland. It took until 2005 for the Shire based team to taste success again and since then they have had their name on the title every year. Only 2 other previous teams have achieved 3 titles in a row, those being Darlinghurst and Newtown. The Cronulla Police team have vowed to win the title again next year to make them the only team to achieve 4 Premierships in a row.

The Police Rugby League Football competition which had been a week to week competition for 37 years was replaced this year with a carnival which was held at the Regional Stadium at Port Macquarie over 4 days. 8 teams - Cronulla, West Sydney, NSW Country South, NSW Country North, Central Coast, Eastern Suburbs, Tactical Operations Unit and the Railcorp Transit officers competed for the title. All teams played a minimum of 3 games with eventual winners, Cronulla having to play 5 games in 4 days to win the title.

Organisers would like to thank all the players and officials from the 8 clubs that took part in the carnival this year. Special thanks to the Major Sponsors of the carnival - McMillan Shakespeare - salary packaging and novated leasing and the NSW Police Council of Sport for their assistance.

Plans for next years carnival are already underway. Several notices will be distributed via the Police Service Weekly and by other means closer to the event for those interested in being involved.

Finally, congratulations to those players selected from the carnival to represent the NSW Police Rugby League Football side in our interstate game against our QLD Police counterparts. This game will be played as a curtain raiser to the Round 7 NRL game between the TITANS and EELS to be played at Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast QLD on Sunday the 28/4/07.
